What is the German “Opportunity Card?”
New immigration law was recently introduced by the German Ministry of Labor, which introduced a point-based "Opportunity Card”, known as “Chancenkarte” which means opportunity. The main aim is to increase the number of skilled workers in the country. In turn, this will lead to a reduction in the labor shortage in Germany.
The Opportunity Card will be
beneficial to everyone who is planning to work or settle in Germany. The card opens
many doors with more exposure and chances. Skilled workers and skilled
immigrants can apply for the “Opportunity Card” to find work in Germany within a limited
time. This will enable the applicants to explore their options and improve
their skills as well.
What are the Requirements for the “Opportunity Card?”
The Opportunity Card has four basic requirements:
- Germany-recognized degrees or vocational degrees
- Professional experience of at least three years
- Skills in the German language (minimum B1 level) or previous stays in Germany
- Age under 35
If you fulfill three of the four requirements, applicants can still qualify for the Opportunity Card. Quotas will be decided yearly by the German government based on the demand for skilled workers in each industry. Cards will be released based on demand.
Why was the “Opportunity Card” introduced
The “Opportunity Card” is not
limited to just the issue of shortage of labor. Along with increased skilled
immigration, the German Government wants to bring skilled workers with targeted
training and further education and more women into work.
