Changes to Canadian Citizenship Act would come into effect from 11th October

 

New Canada Visa Process

 The federal government of Canada has declared few changes to Canada Citizenship Act that would come into effect from Wednesday 11th October 2017.

Canada Immigration Minister Ahmed Hussein made this announcement in Ontario province of the country at a press conference.
The significant changes that were made include the minimization of the need of physical presence for
Canada Permanent Residents towards qualifying for the citizenship of the country, from the period of four to three years. According to Hussein, Many permanent residents of the country would be able to apply for Canada Citizenship earlier.

The minister also declared the elimination of the need to Live in Canada 183 days in each of the qualifying years, permitting Canadian permanent residents to travel outside the nation.

Additional changes to would come into effect would include time spent as a Temporary Resident of Canada counting towards the requirement of applicant’s physical presence. Temporary residence would be able to accumulate a half day for every full day they had spent in the country towards their application for citizenship, up to a maximum period of one year.

Canada Immigration Minister also declared that the age limit for knowledge and language test has been decreased to between 18 and 54. Previously it would 14 and 64. And it was putting an unnecessary burden on youth.

The final change brought the requirement of income tax filing into line with the requirement of physical presence. The applicants who are applying for Canada Citizenship would now require filling income tax in three out of previous five years.

 This second time, new changes took place after C-6 Bill was given Royal Assent on 19th June 2017. Changes made first time that happened immediately after passing the bill includes the elimination of citizenship revocation powers, the announcement of intent to the requirement of stay and changes to permit minors to apply for Canada Citizenship.

 Third-time changes to the Citizenship Act of the country would take place in early 2018. Presently the minister for Canada Immigration could revoke the nationality on the grounds of incorrect representation, fraud, or knowingly concealing material conditions. Early next year would also witness the authority for citizenship officers to seize the fraud or suspected fraudulent documents.
The summary of these changes is to ensure needless hurdles to the Canadian citizenship are removed. Who qualifies for Canada Citizenship?

 The country offers nationality of the country through naturalization and by taking birth in the country. Under the present rules and regulation, in order to qualify for the nationality of the country, through naturalization, the applicants should have four years of qualifying Canada PR status during preceding six years. This is set to get modified to three years in preceding five years during this year’s fall.

Candidate should also meet the requirement of language proficiency for Citizenship if their age is below 64 if they are not under a removal order if they do not have a criminal record and they had paid their processing fees.

Applications are sent to the office of citizenship at Nova Scotia where they would first prescreen to make sure that the application is complete and the four-year residency rule has been met. Within a year from submission, applicants would require attending the interview to show their knowledge of the country in one of the official languages of the country.
