The IELTS is one of the most
frequently attempted tests by individuals who want to study or settle abroad.
The exam is a standardized test that evaluates your ability to communicate in
the English language, and grades you on various parameters including speaking,
listening, reading and writing. Getting a score of 7.0 or higher is considered
as a good score as it allows you to get into most universities in USA and also
is the acceptable minimum for IMMIGRATION
TO CANADA. We take a look at a
few tips to score at band 7.0 or above
IELTS Training – Scoring At Band 7.0 Or Above
1. Join an IELTS training class
Many students initially assume
that they can study on their own and score good marks in the IELTS, but
evidence suggests the contrary. You can buy material online and learn on your
own, but you cannot identify your areas of weakness in an unbiased manner. Also,
you will find the support of a peer group very necessary to keep you motivated
at times when you feel likely to slack.
2. Do your own research
IELTS exam is basically a test of
the English language, so you should read as much as possible from every genre
to make yourself familiar with the vagaries of the language. You should also
attempt as many practice tests as possible before the actual test date.
3. Make a study plan for IELTS training
You should make a personalized
study plan with the help of your instructors at the IELTS TRAINING
center that considers the time you have left for attempting the test and your
areas of strength and weakness. You will honestly need to budget for at least 2
to 3 months of preparation if your English is at expert level or above and at least
6 months if your English is at intermediate level or below. You should make sure that the plan you make
is balanced and leaves you enough time to pursue other activities to avoid over
stressing yourself.
4. Don’t miss a single day of IELTS
training
If you want to get a good score
on the IELTS you should be sure to put in the minimum requisite hours of
training every day. It is recommended that you choose a time that is most
likely to be free of distractions such as early in the morning and be
consistent with your preparation
5. Create your own space
One of the most challenging
aspects of studying for a test is the inevitable distractions from your family
members or noises around you. To
minimize these, you can use a few strategies such as designating a room or
section of the room as your personal study space. Informing your family members
that they should not disturb you. You can use a simple study prop/symbol such
as a mini figure/ idol or show case item for this. Every time you put it on your
desk it can be an indication to your family that you should not be disturbed.
The above tips can be very
helpful for scoring well on the IELTS exam and propelling your efforts to study
abroad
