Rules for Canadian Citizenship
According to the rules laid down by Canada immigration authority a
person should have lived in the country as a permanent resident for at least
three out of five years to be eligible to apply for citizenship. Permanent
residents enjoy many benefits such as the right to live and work anywhere in
the country, social security benefits, as well as protection under Canadian laws,
but one needs to be a citizen to get the right to vote and run for political
office. Another advantage of obtaining a Canadian passport is that it enables
one to apply for a trade national visa, which allows one to enter and work in
the USA. So, one would have the option of working in both countries.
