The Best Habits of Students Who Score High On Graduate Record Exam

Every year thousands of students take the Graduate Record Examination in order to qualify themselves for entrance into some of the best universities in the world. Only a few will have scored high enough to qualify for admission into the college of their choice. Many students have to rest content with either their second or third choices because they have not scored the requisite marks. However there are some strategies that are followed by these high performing students to optimize their score

1. Regular and short bursts of concentrated study are better than marathon sessions

How often have your parents told you to study regularly each day and not leave the preparation for the last minute only to be ignored by you? But it turns out that they were right all along. Researchers are now finding that a half an hour of focused preparation for a test beats long marathon periods of studying. The same holds true for GRE COACHING as well. Trying to study for long hours will cause you to end up feeling fatigued and not having retained most of what you have read. The most effective way to study for the test is to go for short bursts of highly focused studying. You could try the Pomodoro method for study. As per the Pomodoro method you would study a particular section for a period of 25 minutes followed by 5 minute rest break, before moving on to the next section.

2. Keep your reading targeted

It often happens that students are not able to cover all the topics that are part of the syllabus, because they spend time reading all the explanations and footnotes for each and every topic. However focused reading is better that reading all content. When you opt for GRE training by expert coaches, you will be able to get access to strategies for optimizing your reading. Read with an outcome in mind. Read the questions first and then scan the passage for answers, marking them as you read.

3. Time yourself as you practice

GRE training has to be done in a timed manner as the exam itself has a specific time limit. A student has 1 hour and 30 minutes for verbal section and 1 hour and 45 minutes for the quantitative sections. It is always a good strategy to time yourself from the very beginning to get used to the concept of completing within the allotted time. The advantage of going for GRE coaching is that you will get the opportunity to write many timed tests in a classroom setting.

4. Keep revising as you go ahead

As you study for the test, you will find that as you move ahead in your syllabus you are likely to forget what you have studied before. To avoid this it is best to keep revising the earlier topics as you go ahead. It is also a good idea to keep all your rough notes and workings as a reference for the future so that you have an idea of how you have progressed in your preparation for the test
