School is
fun and carefree for most students, but once you get to college life becomes a
series of choices that you need to make. And with choice comes the
responsibility and consequence of the choice. Whether you should go abroad to
complete your graduation? Which country you should opt for? What course should
you study? And so on and so forth. Now there is a new question added to the
list for MBA aspirants – should you take the GRE or GMAT for your Bschool
admission?
Hitherto
the GMAT was the entrance test traditionally given by students aspiring to
study MBA in USA and GRE was the test given by students aspiring to complete
their MS in USA. However now both GRE and GMAT have become equally popular
How are GRE and GMAT different
The GMAT
has been specifically designed for business school applicants, the GRE is
intended for students who are seeking admission to a post graduate program in
Science, art or literature. However lately more and more Business schools have
started accepting GRE as a test, in fact
at present time more than 90 percent of the business schools in USA accept the
GRE as an entrance test for MBA programs
The GMAT
lays a heavier emphasis on quantitative and analytical skills which involves
interpretation of data, which is presented in text and chart forms. As such
GMAT training involves lots of practice on quant problems. The test is designed
to test your ability to solve problems which are complex, whereas GRE as a test
is more generic and is not as focused on Math and GRE Coaching
is more focused on verbal. The test is more verbal oriented and can be
challenging for students who are not strong on vocabulary.
The GMAT is a computer-adaptive test which
means that the questions that come up are designed as per the question that you
have already answered. In the GMAT test you can review your previous answers. GMAT Exam Preparation
will differ from GRE in this aspect as the GRE, is not a computer –adaptive
test and you cannot check your previous answers.
The GMAT
test time lasts for 3 hours and 30 minutes, whereas the GRE lasts 15 minutes
longer, which does not sound like a lot, but if you have shorter attention span
than you might consider GRE training rather than GMAT training
The GMAT
has a higher score range than the GRE. The GMAT is scored from 200 to 800 while
the GRE is scored from 130 to 170. This of course does not make any technical
difference to your decision on which test to take. It can however have a
psychological impact as a higher score is generally associated with a tougher
test
With these
comparison factors it becomes easy to take a decision on which test to take for
your MBA program
